vremyavpered wrote about Dale Chihuly exhibit at the De Young Museum. I must admit that for years I was sneering at Chihuly's work, snorting indignantly when it was referred to as "art". However, what passes for high art now is sometimes so beyond the pale (Jeff Koons anyone?) that Dale Chihuly has suddenly started looking pretty good. His work still retains two important criteria: craftsmanship and beauty.
OK, OK, I know, of course, that craftsmanship is mostly created by an army of underpaid and overworked art slaves with MFA's, but it is still there, nonetheless. Last year, at the Chatsworth Sculpture Exhibition, Chihuly was represented by this spectacular work.
