В журнале "Экономист" на этой неделе напечатана занятная карта Америки, где показано как экономика каждого отдельного штата соответсвует экономике отдельных государств. Да, государств.

Экономика штата Калифорния - в первой десятке мировой экономики, и равна экономике Италии. А вот экономика штата Техас равна экономике России. Несмотря на годы упадка и разорения машиностроительной промышленности, экономика штата Мичиган все равно равна экономике Тайваня. Можно нажать на кнопку, и тогда появится другая карта: как население отдельных штатов можно сравнить с населением разных государств. Население штата Нью-Йорк равно населению Камеруна, а экономика этого штата равна экономике Австралии.

I think that many hundreds of angry and irritated posts notwithstanding, this all boils down to the same thing: parents like to think that they have the best plan, that they know what is best for the children, and that they are in control. Children, however, have plans of their own. Some start early by turning into a breached position two days before a long-planned for "natural" home birth with a doula, forcing the mother into an OR and a C-section. Some take their time and strike back by dropping out of Wharton Business School, joining a commune and chaining themselves to the fence of the IMF in protest of globalization.

Parents, please remember: God only knows, God makes his plan. The information's not available to the mortal man. ... We think we're gliding down the highway, when in fact we're slip sliding away.
