fiona_grady: (I could have danced all night)
Интересно, как некоторые иронически-презрительные клички определенной группы добродетельных и прекраснодушных выражены на разных языках, и что это нам раскрывает о местной культуре.

What is known as LIMOUSINE LIBERALS in the US, is LA GAUCHE CAVIAR in France, and CHAMPAGNE SOCIALISTS in the UK.

It is, therefore, easy to deduce that Americans are obsessed with cars, the French - with food, and the British with booze.

The British moniker is of further interest because the
word "Champagne" in its tres froggy connotation is used to forcefully denote a foppish disconnect from the working blokes and their ale.

I am also not a little amused to realize that all three terms combined conjure an image of one John Kerry.
